Visit The Myrtle Beach Boardwalk

Celebrating its second anniversary in May 2011, the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk has welcomed thousands of tourists and locals alike to stroll the protected sand dunes, breathe the salt air and enjoy the natural beauty of the Atlantic Ocean. Open to the public 24/7, cool ocean breezes and beautiful blue waters await its visitors. The Myrtle Beach Boardwalk stretches along Ocean Boulevard in downtown Myrtle Beach, from 1st Avenue North to 14th Avenue North and covers 1.2 miles of oceanfront. The raised wooden boardwalk features numerous covered rest bench alcoves where you can sit, relax and snap pictures of the beautiful ocean scenery. Begin and end your beach stroll at either the Second Avenue Pier or Fourteenth Avenue Pier, both of which have beach souvenir shops. The boardwalk has easy access from all oceanfront hotels and motels. The "middle" section of the boardwalk, around Plyler Park, features the merchants area. Here visitors can shop for souvenirs, beach "stuff" and eat to satisfy their hunger needs. All of the boardwalk food merchants have outside tables and chairs to allow patrons a chance to eat, drink and enjoy the view. Special events, such as the Hot Summer Nights Concert Series are held around this area of the boardwalk.A local icon, The Bowery, where the original country super-group Alabama was the house band for many years, is located just one-half block off the boardwalk. Ripley's Believe or Not, another Myrtle Beach main attraction is located around the corner from The Bowery.Visitors with children in baby strollers and our wheel-chair bound friends will find the smooth wooden boardwalk easy to traverse. Rest rooms are available all along the route and are clearly marked. Each intersecting street has a concrete marker, so you always know where you're at along the boardwalk route. How about man's best friend? The Myrtle Beach Boardwalk is certainly pet friendly. From the day after Labor Day to May 1, dogs will be allowed any time, as long as they're on a leash. During the summer, they are allowed from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.Need a few accolades?

How about National Geographic Magazine has ranked it third on its Top Ten List of Boardwalks.

The staff at the Today Show ranked it second, behind the world-famous Coney Island Boardwalk.

"Cake Boss" Buddy Valastro, presented the City of Myrtle Beach with a giant flip-flop cake to commemorate the official grand opening of The Myrtle Beach Boardwalk.Paid public parking is available all along the route, as is a multi-level public parking garage between 9th and 10th Avenue North just off Kings Highway and Ocean Boulevard.
